I used to think that politics was for oily toffs, who couldn't get other jobs. Yeah, that's probably still true, however, it's becoming more apparent that I need to know more about politics.
Now, I'd love to stick my head in the sand and go all Homer Simpson, I think 'he' said we pay politicians to think for us. Well, look where that's getting us.
It's a hard and often thankless job, I'm sure. But I always feel that the politicians that are supposed to be representing me are out of step with how the real world is.
So, here I go, delving into the unknown. I just need to figure out where the hell I start!

Polls
Does anyone trust polls? When you read that 70 people out of 100 like tomatoes, do we really believe that the poll is relative?
The problem with polls, is that they are conducted by people on the streets, you know the ones. Why on earth do we want to know what mad harry, on his way to swap is favourite mug for a tooth brush, eats for dinner?
People are idiots, what the hell can we learn from idiots?

Jeremy Clarkson
Stupid does as stupid is...........
If you haven't heard already, Mr Clarkson made an error of judgement by having his bank details published in one of his new paper columns.
He was trying to prove that the recent loss of personal data was nothing to be worried about. How wrong he was as someone created a direct debit to a charity that took £500 out of his account. But, don't let this worry you too much. The person who created this account will have known what they were doing and the fact that Clarkson is a 'celebrity' (oh god no!) means that all the information you could ever wish for is available on some dodgy and some not so dodgy web sites. Think, date of birth, mothers maiden name, town of birth, you know, all those questions that the bank ask you for security reasons. All the ones that you aren't advertising to anybody but people who know you well.
The problem is, he's now probably worried half the nation with his stupid school boy antics and raised yet more questions about issues which were confusing enough as it was.
In waving his red rag to a bull, he practically invited people to try and raid his account and they succeeded and now he's upset.

Dark surprise?
Some people have obviously been taken by surprise by the nights getting darker earlier. Maybe the clocks going back wasn't a big enough clue for them that it will be dark sooner.
If it's not a pedestrian in the middle of the road trying to cross, it's a cyclist jumping a red light or even some car drivers who decide they can see in the dark.
These three have something in common; we can't bloody see them!!
The pedestrian in the middle of the road scared the life out of me as I passed! They had obviously got t0 the middle of the road when one side was clear, but hadn't thought about how to not get hit when they stood in the middle of two lanes of passing traffic. No doubt, if they had been struck, we would have been told that it was the drivers fault.
Some cyclists seem to think that traffic rules don't apply to them and to some extent I sympathise. They get no real encouragement to actually use bikes in the first place, unless we count the cycle lanes, I guess some are adequate. But that doesn't mean they don't need lights, or not to stop at red lights, when they have no lights themselves and no one else can see them!
And as for the drivers who decide that they don't need those new fangled lights, well guess what; you do you moron. Here's a tip for you, if you can't read your speedo because it's too dark, you need to use your lights. Why I think an idiot like this would actually check what speed they were doing is another thing, but you've got to try.

Scottish MP's
This seems to be in the news again, that the Scottish MP's get to vote on English issues, but English MP's can't vote on anything about Scotland.
It's a ridiculous situation and one that must be sorted. Of course, I'm not suggesting for one minute that a Scotsman would try to upset the English by purposely voting against something in some sort of spite, but I don't understand the need for them to vote on our issues.
One thing I heard on the radio, which I don't know is true or not, but they said that because we have a Scottish prime minister, that if the Scots couldn't vote on English matters then our Scottish PM wouldn't be able to run the country. Now, that's just ridiculous. Basically he has two jobs, he's an MP (for Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath I think) and he's also the PM.
If the law changed so that Scottish MP's couldn't vote on English matters then fine Gordon Brown MP can't vote on English matters, but Gordon Brown PM can run the country like any other PM has in the past. I assume this is what happened with Mr Blair when it came to voting on Scottish issues, as he was an English MP?
Maybe I'm missing something, but this situation sort of sums up the UK government. Too much red tape and not enough brains.

smoking and babies
OK, so let's just get one thing out of the way. I don't smoke and I never have. I really, really just don't see the attraction. Knowing what we do about the health problems, the vile stench and worse of all, (to some smokers obviously!) it costs a fortune and is getting worse.
But what really gets me annoyed is people smoking when pushing their prams or indeed while pregnant. I mean, I know smokers and they wouldn't dream of doing such things. It's one thing to put yourself through it, but to have babies breathe in their smoke is just plain shocking.
I saw that today. Two mothers were standing by the side of the road, both pushing prams, one of them obviously pregnant. They were both puffing away whilst their babies were in the prams. One of the mothers even bent down to check on her child and with both hands adjusting something on the pram, she was holding the cig in her mouth, with her face as close as could be without physically touching the baby.
No wonder society is breaking down. I mean, if these people are the biggest breeders, what are there kids going to be like? Oh, we already know. Complete freaks.
And before someone says, 'but it's their choice to smoke', like so many people did when the smoking ban came in to force, then what about the babies choice. That's right, they don't get one. They have to grow up with that shit all around them.

Driving habits
Do you notice when you have your windscreen wipers on? Yep, thought so, you're sensible, ish.
So how come there are so many drivers who for some reason, can't see whats right in front of them? And if it's not seeing them, surely hearing them go back and forth, over and over again would be enough of a warning?
I saw two cars on the way home doing this, worse of all, it hasn't rained at all, not a drop. It's been as dry as a sheikh's camels fur. Or hair, whichever it is that they have, but you get the point. It was very dry.
Why is this an issue anyway?
Well, if they aren't concentrating enough to notice their wipers, then what on earth are they concentrating on? It isn't driving and that worries me.
